ETO Testing (Ethylene Oxide)

  • Ethylene oxide serves as a sterilizing agent in various foods, primarily to eliminate the threat of Salmonella. However, its ban in the EU due to carcinogenic and toxic properties has necessitated mandatory testing for ETO and its derivative ECH on all food product consignments to the EU.
  • Leveraging our state-of-the-art Triple Quadrupole GCMSMS system, coupled with headspace analysis, we can separately detect ETO and ECH if required, achieving a limit of quantification (LOQ) as low as 10 µg/kg.

PFAS Analysis (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances)

  • PFAS, synthetic chemicals widely used in various consumer products, have been linked to harmful health effects in humans and animals.
  • As importing countries impose regulations on PFAS residue levels, analysis becomes a mandatory requirement.
  • Our cutting-edge facility equipped with UPLC coupled with Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry allows analysis and detection at levels as low as 0.2 µg/kg.

Pesticide Residue Testing

  • Pesticides are commonly used to protect plants and plant products from pests, insects, molds, and fungus.
  • Mandatory compliance with EU Regulation No. 396/2005 for various food products exported to Europe involves testing over 600 pesticide compounds, many with maximum residue limits (MRLs) as low as 10 µg/kg.
  • We employ a combination of LC and GC analysis methods, harnessing the power of Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry for efficiency and accuracy.

Alkaloid Analysis

  • Alkaloids, produced by a variety of organisms, can have severe physiological effects on animals.
  • Regulations define MRLs for Pyrrolizidine alkaloids (PAs) and certain Tropane alkaloids and their N-oxide forms (PANOs).
  • Acute poisoning with these alkaloids can lead to liver damage, while sub-acute or chronic exposure may result in liver cirrhosis and pulmonary arterial hypertension.
  • Interfield Laboratories offers testing for approximately 42 Pyrrolizidine alkaloids and 2 tropane alkaloids, with a detection limit of 10 µg/kg.

Overall Migration of Constituents

  • Packaging enhances food convenience and safety by protecting against microorganisms and chemical changes, extending shelf life. However, it introduces the potential for the migration of constituents from food packaging to the food itself.
  • Various packaging materials contain substances capable of migrating to foods, posing potential risks to human health.
  • Interfield, accredited in testing overall migration from packing materials, assists suppliers, food packers, and producers in detecting and addressing migration risks effectively.

Veterinary Drug Residues

  • Food animal production practices often involve the use of drugs such as Chloramphenicol, Nitrofurans, Tetracyclines, Quinolones, and Fluoroquinolones.
  • Residues of these drugs, including parent compounds and metabolites, can pose human health risks, such as drug residue allergy, cancer, reproductive and developmental defects, development of antibiotic-resistant microbes, and drug misuse.
  • We conduct all mandatory tests, meeting regulatory requirements.

Metal Contaminants

  • Long-term intake of contaminated food can lead to the accumulation of toxic metals in various organs, disrupting normal metabolism.
  • Our state-of-the-art facilities for metal contamination detection can reach up to ppt levels for approximately 25 elements.
  • We can quantify methylmercury in fish, a highly toxic substance.

Synthetic Dyes – Permitted and Illegal

  • Artificially colored foods use either permitted or illegal dyes. Permitted dyes have tolerance levels set by regulatory bodies, e.g., Erythrosine, while illegal dyes are banned.
  • Our expertise and methodologies enable the detection of more than 20 synthetic dyes in various foods.

Antioxidants

  • Free radicals generated in the body can cause oxidative stress. Antioxidants like butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), tert-butyl hydroquinone (TBHQ), and ethoxyquin, if added beyond permissible limits, can be harmful.
  • Regulatory requirements mandate testing and quantification.

Fatty Acid Profiling

  • Analysis of fatty acid profiling addresses issues related to the quality of fats, such as adulteration, purity, identification, and nutritional value.
  • Our GC techniques for monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) analysis provide customers with precise fatty acid profiling.

Migration Tests of Packaging Material

  • Packed food is a necessity, but migration of harmful substances from packaging material is a concern.
  • We provide precise testing for overall migration and specific migration based on customer needs.

Nutritional Labelling

  • To enable healthier dietary decisions and ensure fair practices in food trade, nutritional labeling is becoming mandatory.
  • We test protein, fat (saturated, unsaturated – MUFA & PUFA), cholesterol, total carbohydrate, dietary fiber, total sugar, added sugar, vitamins (fat-soluble and water-soluble), and minerals (iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, zinc, copper).
